During the past number of years we have seen an increase in media attention
regarding information about health and fitness. Add to this an influx of television shows starring
some of the best Doctor’s in the world and many of us are starting to become confused about
which direction to take. Eat this, don’t drink that, exercise this way, no, do it that way are what we
are hearing on a weekly basis. This can lead to indecision about taking measures that will lead to
better health.

The question some of you may have is how to decide which pieces of information are accurate
and how to incorporate them into our daily routine? After all, there are only so many hours in a
day.

I have a simple approach to healthy living that may be of interest. It is based on common sense. If
followed, my methods should help you to achieve and maintain good health. I like to break my
plan down into four different categories; lifestyle, nutrition, weight management and exercise.
That’s it. If you can incorporate these four disiplines into your life on a consistent basis, you
should be healthy. Let’s take a look at each topic. Lifestyle is a general term and includes the
other three disciplines. Nutrition stands for healthy eating, a reduction in the intake of harmful
foods and limiting alcohol consumption. Maintaining a healthy weight is extremely important as
obesity has been linked to health issues such as adult onset diabetes, hypertension and a variety
of other health problems. Last but not least is exercise. In my opinion exercise and nutrition have
the greatest influence on health. Being physically active will help to decrease the risk of the above
mentioned health issues, help you maintain a healthy weight and provide you with better overall
health.
